One is Silver, and the other is Crap

Meet new friends and keep the old. One is silver, and the other is gold.

After seeing the same clothes over and over again for about a month and a half now, it seems like I've uncovered a treasure hoard of "friends." Let me explicate.

In my closet, I have my staples, my favorite items, and those that I wear multiple times. Those garments/accessories are my OLD FRIENDS, my GOLD FRIENDS. I can rely on them through thick and thin. I know them really well and can wear them appropriately.

Then, there are those whom I consider my FRENEMIES. You know, those clothes that you really don't like that much, but maybe, just MAYBE, you'll need someday. This black and pink top is one of my Frenemies. I don't even remember when or for how much I got this top for. All I remember was that I would probably need something like that one day.

Well, that one day hasn't come yet. So, I tried it on today to see if I could use it for everyday wear. It looked comfy enough. Though the fabric is breathable, the length of the garment is really weird, and sits an inch too high for my tastes. The sleeves pinch just a tad, but enough to make me feel really uncomfortable wearing it for long periods of time (as I type, I am in my comfy Batman tee).

So, it's time to dump the sucker.

The moral of this blogpost is: "Throw your Frenemies away"

Once in a while, I'll come across a garment that I won't remember wearing or purchasing. So, I make a little time for it and try it on. Those are my ACQUAINTANCES. If they pass the Frenemy Test, then they become my SILVER friends. This skirt is an example of my current, favorite acquaintance. It's super comfy and extra swishy!

  1. I love the skirt! I like how "swishy" it seems to be in that last pic. I cleaned my closest out at the beginning of summer. And trust me I had a lot of frenemies. The reason I don't remember buying them(and mayber the reason you don't either) is because most of them were gifts from my mom. We just do not have the same tastes so usually the things she gets me ends up in the back of my closest to never be heard from again. The reason I don't remember wearing them? For SEVERAL pieces it was because I hadn't, they still had the tags on them. I boxed up several boxes of things and donated them. Maybe that's what you can do with your frenemies too.

  2. I really, really need to do some pruning in my closet. I have some items in there that I just never feel comfortable in and hey, for some reason, I keep hanging onto them. It's getting ridiculous.

  6. I hear you girl! I've been having a big monthly sort out of all my junk especially clothes, and been throwing them "maybe if the right occasion comes" come "if I loose weight again" clothes out. Then I find that's the perfect excuse for new things!

  9. I think I actually just got rid of some things in the same color scheme as the shirt. I used to be a huge fan of hot pink and black, but I feel like I'm too old for it now. Plus my boyfriend has flannel button downs in the same pattern, but in blue. I don't want to even come close to matching him, lol.

  11. I hate tight sleeves! even though i think this is super cute, I know how great it feels to get rid of stuff you deem you no longer need!

  12. I love your system of categorizing clothes :) I always keep some Frenemies around. I'll end up trashing them or cutting them into skirts or something and half the time it actually works.

  15. The pink and blue make me happy, even if the pink has made a frenemy of itself. (A frenemy of yours is one of mine!) I'm going to have to go through my closet at some point (i.e. today!) and figure out who I'm breaking up with...

  18. Haha, I know exactly what you mean! I have way too much clothes that I don't really like that much but don't want to throw away yet because there's always the "what if I want to wear it one day" thought.

Though I love the shirt with the teal belt. :)

  22. Ahhh this is so true, Laura! Once I started my closet purging for Scotland I slashed a bunch of frenemies and most of my acquaintances. My most common frenemy? It's the skirt or pants or shorts that look so cute (cinched waste, highwaisted, makes my legs look longer), but doesn't allow me to sit and/or eat comfortably throughout the day. I shake my fist at you, frenemies!!!

  23. lol I totally understand your description. there are also these friends i got in my closet where I thought I could be friends w them but then got bored of their friendship even before taking off the tags, haha!
