Lately, I've been re-visiting many of my childhood favorites via audiobooks. Now, I usually love the feel and smell of books, but when I'm in the gym, cleaning the house, or cooking, I can't very well hold a book right in front of me now, can I? I am currently listening to Frances Hodgson Burnett's The Secret Garden-- one of my to-go books when I was little.

I'm sure that the book has influenced my current choice of clothing, what with the wide skirts and the heels, but it's also affected my choice of background for these photos. I actually ventured out into the hot and humid world to take advantage of the beautiful sunlight.

My weekend was a flurry of comic books and video games. Oh, and enchiladas. I love making enchiladas since that means I get to spend more time in the kitchen with my fon fon ru (my husband). Making the dish is time-consuming and tiring, but well-worth the effort. To go with our meal, I also made some delicious pico de gallo using fresh tomatoes and jalapenos from my garden. In the past week, I harvested at least half a dozen ruby red tomatoes and a ton of jalapenos. I'm a natural Mary Lennox, I know.

  7. Love love love the location of these photos! With the location and the outfit your wearing you totally remind me of a character from a novel :) I am absolutely adoring your outfit! It's so cute and dainty. & I remember reading The Secret Garden, I read so much as a kid. Also, it's really cool that you have a garden. I love the aspect of growing your own things and actually eating them! :)

  10. i have never listened to an audiobook. is it someone just reading the book, do they read it in a story-telling way? i'm one of those that has to read and re-read paragraphs sometimes because i'm not focused, lol. this is interesting...i may have to try this.
    enchiladas are my favorite. mexican, period, is my favorite!

  16. I'm so jealous of your garden actually producing veggies! My tomato plants have grown like crazy, but I've yet to see any tomatoes!

  23. I love audiobooks as well... I've been listening to the Song of Ice and Fire series (what HBO's Game of Thrones is based on). I find it's a nice alternative to reading the lengthy novels, and I can do it as I'm driving to and from work, which is a half hour commute each way.

  33. Mm... homemade enchiladas! I'm comin' to your house! :D

    My round-trip commute to & from work is roughly 1 hour, so audiobooks sure come in handy when I get bored with music or NPR.

    This is an exquisite outfit. I love the color palette. Your blue and green garments go so well your white/ecru accessories.

  35. I read the Secret Garden so many times as a kid! How fun to revisit old faves. I also loved Little Women and Encyclopedia Brown.

  36. I took a Young Adult literature class over the summer and was able to revisit a lot of my favorite books from when I was a kid. It was so fun to read them again and study them from a more advanced point of view. I loved the book "Number the Stars."
