I Heart Droids

SDC10578SDC10583SDC10593SDC10586

This may sound silly to you, but lately, going to the movies seems to be much more of a hassle than it used to be. And less fun. GAH, I must be getting older. Let me explain.

Going to the movies usually involves other people, which means agreeing on a good time that works for everyone. THEN, of course people want to go to dinner or drinks before that, so 2.5 hours really isn't enough to allot. In reality, you really need to set aside 3-4 hours. Fine.

The movie theater is ALWAYS packed with gaggles of teens dropped off by their parents, so really, the parking lot is never an accurate gauge of how busy it is. Some of these teens like to lollygag around the lobby because, you know, when you're a teen, you really have nothing else better to do.

Once you've dodged the pods of teenagers to get your tickets and snacks (because even after dinner and drinks, you still need popcorn and a slushie) you still have to sit through minutes of previews, that is, if you actually find a whole row of seats for you and your friends to sit on.

Usually, by this time, I'm already a riled up ball of meanness. But not today, folks. Today, I purchased a R2D2 and C3PO heart pin from the ticket booth at the theater. And that made me happy. Because, yeah, I heart droids.

  1. Hey, I think this outfit is put together really well!! I am inspired to get a horizontal stripe top like yours too!

I also like wearing my horizontal stripe long dress with a black jacket. But I don't have a horizontal stripe top.

  3. Ha, your movie-going experience sounds about the same as mine. Damn noisy teenagers. Ugh. But that is such a cute pin that I am being mollified.

  4. Ha! We just introduced my Little Guy (who's 3) to Star Wars and he LOVES it. He goes around and says, I am a robot. I am a robot. In this funny litle C3P0 voice and he likes to be carried around like C3P0 is carried when he gets all messed up when they're captured. lol I love Star Wars.

  5. I absolutely agree with you on going to the movies being a lot less fun than it used to be. I am so busy and never seem to have free time so I actually love being at home when I have a few free moments.

You look darling. I love the stripes under the blazer and the adorable pin.

  9. I don't like going to movies now either, more so because it is so costly. Plus I have a small bladder and always miss something b/c I have to get up and use the restroom!

This outfit makes me think of a sailor girl with the stripe top and bag ;) But always beautiful of course!

  10. And I love your outfit. I'm not a big fan of theatres either. Hardly ever go. Like, seriously, MAYBE twice a year, and that's pushing it. So expensive, too! For no reason!

  11. Oh no. I'm an iPhone gal. I'm sure Droid works really well.

  12. I heart droids too! I like to go to the movies early to avoid the teenagers.

  13. Yeah, I prefer staying at home and cuddling up with my husband to watch a film. I get very irritated by all the talkers and the people kicking my seat.

You look so adorable in this outfit. Stripes make me smile.

  15. That is an awesome pin. I usually watch my movies at home, unless it is something that HAS to be seen on the big screen.

  16. Haha, I went to the movies tonight, we went pretty early because we thought it would be busy but it turned out there was only about 10 others in the screening! Hope you had a fun time, I love those leopard heels! :)

  24. the teenagers! they seem to be everywhere! usually I got to a movie during a weekday to get rid of the teenagers, although it is harder to get the right schedule with friends if it's on a weekday. :) oh! I missed your blog! :)

  25. Love this outfit! I agree with you about trips to see films, I normally eat way too much popcorn through the previews and spend the rest of the film feeling overly bloated and sick.

  26. My worst part about going to the movies? I always ALWAYS have to pee half way through the movie. That's how I know I'm old. Ugh.

Love your outfit, though! I must go check out target jeggings as yours are pretty amazing. I don't think I've ever bought (or even looked at) pants there.

  27. Awww what a whimsical detail to your outfit- I wish my theatre sold pins at the ticket stand! I know what you mean about going to the movies- I usually avoid going on the weekends but may venture out tonight- we'll see if I'm feeling up to it!

  29. I know what you mean! It always seems so packed with teenagers (which love to speak during the movie) and it drives me crazy. I now mostly go to the movies just with my boyfriend, so that makes it easier to set up times and get seats. You look very chic today btw! Your new droid pin is so cool!

  30. That is exactly why I never go to the movies anymore, except with one other person I can find who also dislikes that nonsense of food and popcorn and youths and extra time. And during the day. Or at the art house theatre. BLEH. But that pin is really lovely, in a nerdy way! I like it. And the gloves, I've been obsessed with fingerless gloves as of late C:

  31. I'm a little bit in love with that pin. So cute.
Also sounds like you are going to the WRONG movie theater. There aren't gaggles of obnoxious teens at our little local theater, unless there is a midnight showing of something.

  33. haha definitely agree! Or when people bring babies to 10 o'clock showings... I'm like "put the kid to bed!" jeesh

  34. You are just awesome! I would also totally wear and R2D@ and C3PO pin if I came across one especially since I've been playing the video game and have a new fondness for metal objects ;) I have to agree tho going to the movies has become more of a hassle especially with the gaggles of teens hanging around and being loud during the show. Your not the only one who turns into "a riled up ball of meanness" I most definitely do too and most of the time the meanness shows someone has to teach those kids some manners! ;)

  36. I actually wouldnt know about the hassle of movies because last time I saw one in theaters was 2009. My dad had to drag me by my ankles and I vowed to never return to the theatres again. I know, I must be the only person you know who'd say that, but there's something about staying home with Netflix that's much more satisfying (and let's not mention cheaper!).

    ReplyDelete
  37. To popcorn or not to popcorn is always the question I face. Stripes! Also, do you actually need glasses or are those just for show? I've been thinking of getting fake glasses lately because my eyes are so dry this winter and they'd protect from the wind. I wear my sunglasses a lot, but when it's dark out it's not really such a good idea, haha.

  38. I have not been to the movie theater in years..I think the last I went was to see SATC II. I need to go more frequently, Oscars are coming up and I haven't seen any of the movies. Love the striped sweater!!

I must be old too. Sometimes I look at the younguns and how full of life they are. Ugh.

  42. You also enjoy your movie with popcorn and slushie? Gosh, me too, that's the best! ♥ And I love your outfit, it's totally geektastic ;) xoxo ♥

  44. At our favorite theatre in town because of an incident, brought on by a local radio station, they have banned everyone under 18 without a parent or guardian present past a certain time (Usually 5 pm). We usually go there or the other one that bans kids past a certain time since they serve alcohol.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh I love the pin! I like the striped top with those shoes, looks really cute. I don't like going to the theatre either, having people munching and slurping and/or bumping into my seat with their knees, I'd rather watch the DVD at home.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Ha! Brilliant. Love the droid pin. By your standards, I've been old since I was about 12. I'm loving life when I don't have to consider anyone else for these kinds of things. Since that is NEVER the case for me, I'm riding the bitter bull through the experience the whole way and working my cranky ol' woman expressions. To top it all off - I noticed white hairs coming in. Now, I'm going to have the hair to match. Oi!

  47. I went to the movies last night and there were a billion teens. I felt like such an old lady when I turned around and asked some kids to be quiet. I was really into the movie, though! You're right about droids, they're pretty great :)

  50. You're killing me with this outfit. I neeeed to work a black or navy blazer into my wardrobe to wear with striped tops.

I try to only go to matinees so as to avoid as many people (teenagers especially) as possible. From time to time I do end up sharing the theater with older and elderly couples and inwardly giggle at being the only person there under 55 :D
