More colorful outfits, yes, but I can't seem to stay away from black. I was afraid that this pairing would look a bit Halloween-ish, but I think it's ok. I planned on wearing this outfit to work and took photos, but at the very last minute, I switched this blazer out for a more fitted one that's a cross between a cardigan and a blazer. This blazer is just a bit too boxy and long for wearing with a dress, methinks.

It's a constant problem I have with blazers, really. I'm extremely short and (just a tad) busty, so petite-sized blazers don't really fit well. It's one of the big reasons why I wear a lot of cardigans. They can deal with the short and the boobies.

  1. I kept reading "boobies" as "booties." Have I gone respectable?

I like the look, but I know what you mean about blazers. I have the same problem. They just don't hang right on me and don't look streamlined at all. I know Zara is supposed to make some really nice blazers, but I'm apprehensive to spend that much money on one when there's the possibility of it looking horrible on me. Le sigh.

Anyway. Oh, and I love the color of that orange dress. Not too Halloweeny. Just the perfect amount.

  2. Laura, I love your dress. Its color is so citrus-y to my vision. And I love the lighting of the photos, too! It's just too sunny where I am.

    Have a great weekend! =)

  3. Blazers do need to be cut just right it seems. I love the color the dress, I know that is what others are saying too, but I seriously do, it's so happy and summery feeling!

  5. I have the same issue even with shirts. I love cardigans because you can leave them unopen regardless of the boob issue.

  6. I have the same issue with blazers so I tend to go for boyfriend cuts that allow me to leave them unbuttoned...and this doesn't look Halloweeny at all, although I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

  7. I thought I spied leopard print shoes, lovely! I love the colour of your dress :) I know what you mean about blazers, it's so hard to find a good fit! I recently found 3 and ended up buying them all whoops!.. but I had been looking for some for a while!

  11. Love the look! And I know what you mean with blazers- I end up just wearing cardigans most of the time because they are more comfortable!

  12. Hahaha you crack me up!
    I like it! I think it's very grown-up!

  13. I like the look! I have a similar issue, only with shoulders. If it fits everywhere else, it's too tight in the shoulder. Blazers - look amazing when tailored, otherwise next to impossible to fit.

  14. Aw yeah I have that problem with blazers being an awkward length. I just wear them that way anyway though haha! Usually it's too warm for them so I'm alright most of the year. I'm definitely a cardigan girl too, though!

  15. Being super tall I have the exact opposite problem...everythings always to short! Our colors for this school district are orange, black, white so we always look like holloween :) but you don't! the color looks more sherbert so maybe it softened on pictures but either way you can do no wrong! always perfectly unique and cute as can be.

  16. Laura, this dress is perfect for spring! The color is amazing and it suits your complexion. I'm not one to wear blazers but I have to admit I'm curious what they would look like on me. I'm only 5'2 so I wonder if they'll make me look shorter! hee hee! :)

  17. prefect outfit for work! you look so fresh in orange. xx.

  18. The short and the boobies - tehehehehe. I totally have blazer problems as well, but my problem is more the short and the no boobies (darts are my enemies).

p.s.- Re: science jobs...for the size of the city (about 500,000) it is very science-y and I'm sure biochemistry is in the mix. Lots of stuff at the Universities around town: lots of stem cell research and agricultural biology stuff. Is that tempting to your hubs? Oh and as for you, they love their crafters here! I just found out about this place http://www.edinburghcontemporarycraftworkshops.co.uk/. So you guys should move here and we can go together! Ta-dah future plans solved!

  19. I love the color of this dress on you. Totally have the same problem with blazers. To get one that would fit everywhere else, I can't button them up. I'm a cardigan girl all the way.

  20. Haha...yes, I so know what you mean. I have the exact same issue...only 5'2 with a humungo chest. It drives me completely nuts. You pull the blazer off well regardless:) I love the sherbet-y orange dress...what a perfect summer thrifty find. Happy weekend Laura! xx Marisa

  21. I love the dress and the blazer Laura! And blazers can be tricky if you are busty and petite, may I suggest that when you are ready to make the investment... check out linda allard for ellen tracy? Her pieces come in petites and I think they would make a great addition to your closet!

  23. This isn't Halloween-ish at all. The thought didn't even cross my mind until you mentioned it. Orange and black look far too good together to always be associated with ghouls and goblins and tricks or treats! This particular shade of orange looks lovely on you, by the way! :)

  24. I laughed so hard at that last line...was wondering where the short and the boobies came in :D This blazer look great with the dress...and great on you! Loving that tangerine colour.

  27. You're funny lol. I have trouble sometimes finding blouses that fit properly & actually button up so I usually just get them a few sizes bigger. I really like this dress on you, the colour is great & since it's quite muted black works we with it :)

  30. I don't think you look Halloweeny at all! You pulled it off really well! Anyways, I am in love with your dress and I feel the same way about blazers, but recently found one thrifting that fits perfectly. I hope you find or tailor your perfect blazer some day!

  31. It's not Halloweeny because the shade of orange is toned down enough :) And to me that looks like a great outfit, I like the cut of the dress with the blazer - I think it looks stylish :) xoxo ♥

  33. I think we, shorties, have similar problems! I find dresses and shorts to be the same. LOL. It took me a lot of trips to the tailor to make it fits me better :)
So I suggest you do the same! It's sort of an investment. Cause I know, I'm not growing any taller! Haha

Love that orange dress! You're taking colorful outfit seriously. Good for you, Laura

  35. Hahahaha I understand the post title now... I was like what? There are no boobies in these photos? I have problems with petite clothing, too. I've been in the biggest size in blouses at Ann Taylor and still have them pull apart at the buttons over my chest. I can't even imagine what women with actual breasts do about petite clothing.

Lydia and were thinking of starting a blogger group for petites who aren't size 00, but we haven't talked about it in a while... I'm going to go throw more names at her. We're kind of stuck. Are you good at naming things? You should help!

Whew, I really went off on a tangent there. I originally wanted to tell you that I really love the color of this dress. I want to see it without the blazer!
