Over the weekend, some friends and I went to see "The Avengers." I'll admit, I wasn't particularly excited to see it since I'm not a big Joss Whedon fan at all, but I went in with an open mind especially because I think Chris Evans makes an extra dreamy Captain America, and Chris Hemsworth is a delicious Thor. Sadly, the movie was a flop in my book. Was it action-packed? Sure. Were the graphics great? Definitely. Was it full of hackneyed one-liners? Nauseatingly so. Good points? Tom Hiddleston makes for a villain you love to hate, and the portrayal of the Hulk is the best one yet. 

In true fangirl fashion, I went dressed as a superhero-inspired outfit. I was initially going to confuse everyone by dressing up as an Avenger not in the movie, but I lost track of time and decided to wear my old Thor dress (click here to see how I wore it the first time). Apparently, not a lot of people get the whole costume-reinterpretation thing, and someone asked if I was going as a domino.

  4. Ah gutted you didn't enjoy the film - i'm not a huge comic geek but I did rather enjoy it! I take most of how the film did by my guy. My guy who is a comic geek was just in the happiest place for the rest of the weekend after seeing that film. Even to the point of shouting out the Stan Lee cameo whilst the theater was silent lol.

  11. Mr. A wanted me to go with him to see "The Avengers" this weekend. I told him that I would go if he bought me a new pair of shoes afterward. We didn't go. I guess it wasn't worth that much to him, which sucks because I really wanted a new pair of shoes.

  20. I TOTALLY got the Thor-ness of the outfit, especially when I saw the hair clip. We haven't seen the movie yet, but boyfriend LOVES Joss Whedon, so I've promised to go.
    Maybe that guy meant Domino like the comic book character? But she doesn't dress anything like that ;)

  21. i cant belive you dont like joss whedon? thats a first for me, and that you didnt like avengers! how? why? no!?! lol but i guess everyone has their own view on things. and you have to remember super hero comic books are full of one- liners, i feel as though he really brought the comic book to life with this one. you looked super cute in the thor outfit!

  31. I do have a particular fondness for Joss's sense of humor (I'm pretty sure there is no way I would have survived middle school and high school with out Buffy) so I did see the Avengers and enjoy it, and I loved that the entire audience actually applauded when the hulk beat down loki.

    But anyway, I love that you dressed up to go see the movie the winged hair clip is the best!

  34. We loved the movie. It was incredible. So funny to hear it from another perspective. I am such a huge fan of RDJ. He can do no wrong in my book. There were a couple of nauseating dialogue (between Johansson and Renner) but I loved all the corny one liners.

    You look great in this outfit, though.

  43. Awww! I love both your Thor inspired looks. Such a cute idea, and I like the dress as a dress outside of the superhero look! It's a cute idea of revamping a basic dress. Sorry the movie was a bust. I haven't seen it, but I just recently saw Cpt. America and thought it was so-so, I didn't get through 10 minutes of Thor before getting pulled away and I haven't gone back to watch it. Ech, maybe I'll have an Avengers marathon when everything is out on DVD?

  44. We saw it too, Laura, and I sniggered through some of it to tell you the truth. Matt was really pleased with it thought (???) and I now realize it is 100% to do with Robert Downy Jr. We can see anything with that man in it (probably even his rehab days) and Mr. Mustachio would call it a hit ;)
    I'm an action-hero novice, but why aren't there more lady kick-assers too? I feel like they were just like "Eh, stick ScarJo in a unitard and call it a day."
