Breaking up is hard to do

Last week, I made a very difficult decision. I decided to break up with my ever-reliable pair of clogs that I got at Target last year. I wore those puppies to death. I wore them with stripes, and I wore them with dots. I wore them to work, and I wore them to weekend dates. Heck, I even wore them to teach a few times.

My love for them is evidenced by the scuff marks and the scratches all along the heels and the platforms. But they had to go. They were looking ratty, and the elastic on the straps was already overstretched. It was painful, but I chucked them.

Then I went and bought these swanky wedges. You can buy them here, if you are so inclined.

I am really surprised that all the shoes that I've gotten from Target (3 pairs so far) have been really comfortable and durable. My new wedges are about 4 inches high, but they don't feel it at all. They are ridiculously comfortable to walk in, and are super perfect for adding edge to my weirdly-sweet looks I've been recently inclined to wearing (think pastels and florals. Seriously, guys, I think I may be morphing into someone else).

Have you ever broken up with a favorite pair of shoes?

  1. I broke up with some black sandals at the beginning of the summer that I've had for a couple of years - I love them, but I've had to glue them in a couple of spots more than once now, so it was time to say goodbye.

I like the new ones you got!

  4. Tossing shoes is so hard to do. I always try to hold on to them till the last thread lol.. I had this pair of converse I wore till there were holes in the bottom! ;)

  5. I'm so sad to see your Target clogs go, as I was envious that you snagged a pair of them in the first place. Your new wedges are pretty adorable though, a good substitute! I had to break up with a beloved pair of tweed ballet flats that never made it to the blog, I almost shed a tear when those had to go!

  6. I hate it when favourite shoes get so worn that you can't wear them anymore and have to throw them away, however I love the new wedges! I'm sure they'll become favourites too!

  8. I broke up with the perfect black kitten heels one time. They were perfect for everything so I wore them all the time and until they finally died on me.
    Goodbye wedges, you were loved.

  9. I"m having trouble breaking up with a couple of pairs of shoes right now. I have literally thrown them out and then gone back in after them (they're in a box, they're clean!) So hard!

  10. I had those same Target clogs, but in nude and I worn the heck out of them last summer. Seriously, they were so comfortable.

  11. I'm still amazed those are Target, Laura! Dolce Vita had the same style last year and the year before (also in pink and nude), but so much more moola. Such a great find and consolation to letting your cut clogs go!
I had to let go a pair of boots that I loved to bits. I had the heels redone countless time, but the rest of them were looking too down-in-the-mouth. I mentioned them on AsianCajuns, and another blogger swopped in and asked for them (a local ATL-er) and it made me feel so much better they went to a new home -- even though they were scuffed to bits (said blogger liked the scuffs).
    Happy new shoe-ing!

  13. I'm shoe-player so I break up with shoes a lot. Less so these days, but I also drop more dough on my shoes for better quality. The new shoes are super cool, and I think they're a good replacement for the worn-out pair.

  14. I hate getting rid of shoes :( I think they're the worst thing to try to replace.

Am going to Target this weekend! Will look out for some good shoes... and maybe clothes too!

  15. I had to break up with my heels. Two torn discs in my spine was more than just physically crushing. Having to relinquish my heels broke my heart. :(

  18. Aw I have the same pair of dark brown clog sandals from Target too. I got them on clearance last year. I haven't worn them out yet though! I really like the pair you bought to replace them too. Target has great shoes!

  19. Oh yes, that is the hardest. My work shoes are so comfy I've bought them again 3 times. But I went to buy some more last month and they have stopped making them!!!! I was inconsolably distraught! I've been holding on to my current shoes but they really must go, siigghhhhh I'll keep you in the loop about how strong I get.
