what the smock?

My husband is my worst critic when it comes to what I wear. And being that he's my husband, and that he knows that my love for him is pretty much unconditional, he'll usually just blurt out what he thinks about my outfits without tact. His comments have never fazed me. But they are a source of great amusement and inspiration for blog posts and titles.

It was love at first sight when I first laid eyes on this vintage jacket a few months back. I pictured myself using it as a stylish raincoat for those warmer but rainier days (no sign of those yet). I just loved the gold print and the little gold buttons against the bold blue color of the fabric. I adored how the fabric is gathered along the neckline, and when unbelted, how geometric its cut was. So I purchased it, without any regret of spending almost $30 on it.

Then I went home to show it off to my husband. Instantaneously, he asked "are you heading out to learn to cut hair or something? Or maybe paint a house?"  I had totally forgotten that this "raincoat/jacket" of my dreams was actually a "smock." But I love it anyway.

  1. You should love it, it's awesome. Smock or not. Also, it lends itself to a brilliant post title.

  2. Hahaha! My bf is the worst critic of my outfits too! When we started dating, he was all "you look cute" and "that looks good on you" now he's all "that's too short" and "just wear anything but that" LOL Love your hub's reaction when you got home. You look very cute though :)

  4. haha...what a cute story. It's kind of amusing to see the different take people have on what we think is beautiful vs. what they think as ordinary (so to speak). Likewise with me, my hubby says some things I wear as wacky or off the charts, but as he always reminds me, "you're wearing it, not me" and that phrase always reminds me that style is personal and subjective so embrace what you like! =)
Love the look despite the "critics." =D

  5. Um, totally adore this smock! I don't think it's whacky...but obviously there are differing opinions on style ;) Sometimes I have to wear something a couple times before the hubby will admit that he has actually grown to like it...or, quote, "it looks better on that I thought when I saw it on the hanger" :)

  13. Your husband is hilarious. That said, it's a CUTE smock. Not the kind you paint houses in. Well... I painted my house in cute things and ruined them. That's just because I'm dumb sometimes.
