When my husband and I first met, he thought that I was born and raised in sunny California, which, he thought, explained my unfortunate Valley girl-esque accent. (It's gone now, or at least most of it is.) I did, though, live in California for about 6 months, and I totally fell in love with the bohemian vibe that every Californian seemed to exude, like it's in their pores or something.
A wonderful woman who lives in California gave me this lovely Buddha tassle necklace, and I can't help but feel like I'm a bit boho just by adding it to my outfit. And the kimono! I've been obsessed with kimono tops lately, and because I can't find any pretty ones within my budget, I thought I'd make one for myself.
This is the first time I've ever worked with stretch knits, and they're an absolute nightmare. But I love how this top fits, so I'll have to grit my teeth and keep my hand steady so I can get more boho kimono tops in my wardrobe.
You are quite the talented DIY girl! That's amazing that you made the kimono. It's a very pretty color too.
ReplyDeleteLove your kimono top, I can't imagine sewing with a knit! That necklace is such a statement piece, love that you kept the look simple to let it really stand out.
ReplyDeleteYou make such cute things Laura! I really need to just sit my butt down and make -something- with my sewing machine. I haven't even had it out since last Halloween.
ReplyDelete(and btw, the Valley Girl in most people our age came from the movie Clueless, not California, lol. I had it too and I've never even been to the west coast!)
Okay, after we run away to Europe let's surface in California because I loved the few months I spent living there and need a reason to go back. We'll share the awesome necklace and kimono top so we blend in with the locals.

I love the knitted cardigan. I got some of em in my closet and haven't really paid attention to it yet.
ReplyDeleteLove your polka dot top! Ahh, I love my home state of California! The best of both worlds for me would be to live there for part of the year and live in NYC for the other part :)
ReplyDeleteMy best friend's little sister sounded like a California valley girl too when we were kids but they grew up in Illinois and Texas as kids before they moved to TN.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job with the polka dot top - looks amazing, especially in that minty green colour!
ReplyDeletethis is incred, love the photos

you made that? Well it looks fabulous. Oh the Valley Girl accent. My boyfriend says that when i hang out with my gay friends I come back talking in Valley Girl...not my fault. I'm bilingual and I heard that this happens to people who speak more than one language, you seriously cant help it. If i spend too much time with a certain friend, I start to talk like them. Whateves. I love the bohemian necklace! Ver awesome.
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing! Sometimes I wish I could sew, but I hated it in high school haha!
ReplyDeleteLOVE everything about the look!
I so know what you mean by everyone out in California has that great boho chic style seeping out of their pores! A lot of the times I feel like I don't fit in here style wise compared to most I feel over dressed I guess you could say. Every time I say something to my bf about it he goes well this is California.. lol
ReplyDeleteThe top fits fantastically on you. And it's a great color as well.
ReplyDeleteI live next to California. I feel like that's where a majority of our trends come from... but we are still distinctively not Californian.
You look amazing! I totally love that polka dot kimono, I'm once again impressed by your sewing skills : )
ReplyDeleteYour DIY kimono looks great! The color is really pretty. I'd love to get my mitts on a polka dot cardigan in that exact shade :)
ReplyDeleteAdorei seu blog, vc é muito estilosa!!!

Love this outfit! That green kimono is probably my favorite piece. I'd wear that thing to death.
ReplyDeleteI love the kimono top, Laura! You genius you! I really wanted a kimono top this time last year and instead of thinking about making one... I've just gone without -- for shame! (All of that, and I probably will still just sit and complain about my lack of one). You can find them uber-cheap at Primark and H&M here (more reason to move here ;), but the old ethical bugaboo is constantly holding me back. That said, your option is so ethical. Why oh why have I not learned how to sew.
ReplyDeleteAnyways... enough babble. Your kimono top is totally rad... epic even ;)
