Yesterday, I stumbled upon a blog that knocked me off my feet. And not in a good way. This blog had a glittering background, a blinking cursor that changed images when hovering over a link, 20 or so animated gifs in each post, and almost 50 large images in each page. Thank goodness there was no music playing or else it probably wouldn't have ever loaded on my screen.
I thought that the site may have been a relic. You know, a webpage from days past when gifs and pixels were huge, and everyone wanted to show off their adoptions or savvy at having multiple effects on their sites. Goodness knows I had one or three back when I was learning how to make webpages Geocities-style. But nope, it's current and still active. And really annoying.
I understand the desire to have a blog that stands out from the rest, but overloading it is not the way to do it. A simple and clean layout that's easily navigable is a much better solution.
What say you?
Yep, I agree. The worse ones are the ones that have music! Geez people, I am sure most of us look at blogs while we are supposed to be working and we need to be quiet :)
ReplyDeleteI love your striped dress and red lipstick. Heather
Cute outfit! Im loving the ring and the hand motion. hahaha
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, all those crazy tricked out blogs give me the shakes. It's almost like your outfit is a palette cleanser for that, nice and simple but very sophisticated.

Haha, oh man, I've come across those kind of sites - sooo annoying!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, love the striped dress and your blingy ring ;)

Ooo definitely simple is better. I totally agree, Laura! And you are right, there was a trend for gimicky stuff back in the day (can't believe that site is current), but now clients always ask for very clean, simple sites. Trend on, I say!
ReplyDeleteAs for your equally simple, yet gorgeous outfit -- I love it! Makes me want to get a stripey thrifted dress too!
xoxox,
Lar
Hi L! I miss seeing your pretty face. Loving the new layout of your blog. I seriusly need to update mines but don't seem to have the time.
ReplyDeleteOh and btw - I use to have a glittery, moving cursor, music type of website, it was the cool thing back then =)
I would have to agree, although I do like a persons personality to be somewhere reflected in their layout/background. I'm not really a fan of glitter in reality so it makes me click off on a blog.
ReplyDeleteI love the bling shot, good form on that punch :)
ReplyDeleteA website like that would seriously annoy me, I'm glad it was you that found it and not me!
I will always be a fan of simple, clean layouts. It's plenty easy to make them unique and all your own. Your description of that website made me cringe a little bit. Haha! Also loving the simplicity of today's outfit. That dress will be so versatile as the weather cools down!

Uggh I hate blogs like that-so annoying! Clean and simple is the way to go!
ReplyDeleteLove your stripey dress!
I have to agree, I'm always drawn in to a clean and organized site with great photos! I get annoyed with any type of background image and too much going on in the sidebars.
ReplyDeleteLove your second photo, its says KAPOW!! :)
Digging the black and white. I love your cute stripes, looks comfy :) I agree on the organized thing...I do have a background pattern but it's pretty minimalistic...and I try to keep to just white, grey, brown for blog colours!

this is a darling dress! I'm with you on this one. I like my blogs clean. Too much clutter annoys me.
ReplyDeleteI hate web pages like that. Why are people still doing that today? It's just such a turnoff!
ReplyDeleteThose sites kill me. Almost literally when they blink like a strobe light. I don't know how to do web junk (that's why my block is so lame-o) so I never made one of those myself. I couldn't even figure out Geocities :(
ReplyDeletenice!

I agree 100%, which is why I keep my blog clean and very simple. It's probably the barest one out there.
ReplyDeleteYour lipstick is amazing. And this is a very good post; I absolutely agree that clean and simple blogs are easier to read.
ReplyDeleteWhat the devil? haha! I guess, I am just a blogger who likes a simple and clean plain Jane layout, the goods are in the post! :) But, I have ran into a couple of blogs lately that I liked, except for one thing= popups (which I dislike), especially if there is auto-sound!
ReplyDeleteAnywhoo, your makeup looks lovely and I like the striped knit dress!
I too had one of those websites with annoying jumping characters, music, and heart cursor..haha THank goodness those days are over-ish. kinda. I have no desire to look at and make one of those sites..could be my old age that I like things simple...my eyes might start twitching
ReplyDeleteahhhaha geocities.. in my previous temp job i was looking up contact info for city/county/state government entities. a frightening number of them had super old school sparkle sites.
ReplyDeletelove the punching pic! are the shoes comfy and easy to walk in? ive been waffling on flatforms for quite some time now
I completely agree. I think mine is a little too much as well. I'm thinking of just having a title and the reader will have to click on "read more" to see the entire post. + I want to have smaller icons for all the social media thingies...just dunno where to find them. Well in short I need another lay out!
ReplyDeleteLove you outfit, as always you're so cute!
Yep, simple and clean is the way to go! Your story reminds me of myspace:) Love your dress!
ReplyDeleteFantastic black and white. Simple and clean is best.

Love the OOTD! and as I read your blog post in my email, I said yeahhhh ... there is one particular fashion blogger whose blog is very much like that - its hard to load and the few times I go there, I know I always have to THEN log off and use my "cc cleaner", because the site leaves TONS of cookies. The lady is making a good income (alot of her fancy stuff are from sponsers - clothing lines and such) but it really doesn't do her readers any favors. I tried to leave her a comment about it but I don't think she reads too many of those. Thx for making me feel like I'm not a malcontent!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your post!!! simple and clean!!! xxx
ReplyDeleteHahaha! I read this on twitter and I totally feel you. I went through that phase. I meant in HS. We had this project on how to make a website and thought the more gif and blinking colors, the better. But now I know better.
ReplyDeleteYour outfit reminds me of Wednesday Adams.
I also like a clean look to blogs and websites. Yout blog has a clean, yet distict style, and I love it. I also love this outfit, you can never go wrong with black and white stripes :)

I tooooootally agree!! I get so annoyed when I go to websites that are too overcrowded and take forever to load. Simple is definitely the way to go! Looking cute in this outfit Laura!
