i'm the happiest

Last week, I hinted at something that made me feel blissful and relaxed. I'm not quite sure why I didn't just go ahead and tell you what it was (probably because I was feeling like I would jinx my happiness) but here is it: I quit my job.

If you follow me on twitter or facebook, you'll have already known that I was stuck in a thankless job for a few months. Teaching jobs are hard to score here where I live, plus I don't quite know how long I'll be able to commit to a position because my husband is planning on graduating soon. How soon? We have no clue. See my dilemma here?

I worked a retail management position which just got worse as the months went by. My husband, ever the sweet supporter, told me many many times to just up and quit because he knew I was bottling up all my frustrations, but without a job lined up I really didn't feel like I should.

But life is short. And I want to be the kind of person who does what she wants to do. So, even though I had no other job waiting, I quit. And I am happy that I quit. Actually, I'm just happy. Period.

What am I doing now, you ask? Well, I've taken to doing all the housework (which I still detest, except for cooking) and I'm creating lots of cute stuff for my shop. I'm hoping that with me being able to have more time making things, my shop will grow, grow, grow. It's quite a dream, but I am committed and happiest when I'm left to my needles, cloth, threads, and camera. You may think me naive when I say so, but we all deserve as much happiness as we can get.

*If you haven't yet, take a gander at the shop of worldly delights, and tell all your cute-loving friends about it too! :)

  1. Good on you Laura! As you say life is short and you don't want to be stuck somewhere where you're unhappy. Hope you're enjoying your new found freedom and being able to do more crafting!

  2. Yey for you! Best just to do the things you love doing rather then suffering in a thankless job. I was the same before I moved. I then started getting down about being unemployable which ended me up being the housewife but I now push myself full heartily into my ebay and etsy selling and i'm more happier job wise then i've ever been! Which I always think is the most important part to any job!

  3. Good for you Laura! When my husband and I quit our jobs last winter it was the scariest thing in the world, but we made the right decision since we were absolutely miserable. Best of luck with your shop. You will succeed because you are quite talented!

  7. Laura this post was so beautiful! I picked up a change in you and didn't know what was going on, so I left things alone. This is the best decision you could've made for yourself. You feel a lot better and that's what counts. Some jobs can really make you feel bad! Trust me I've been there and it's not a good feeling. What is suppose to be will definitely come your way. Have faith, pray and trust. I love this dress on you. It's so pretty. The cardigan is too! You look so eloquent. SMILE :)

  12. Good for you! Good luck, Laura :) I do agree - life is too short to be stuck doing things you hate, and well, if you can, it's nice to take a break.

  13. I am envious. You deserve to not be stuck there, though. Even though you didn't out and say it on here (I don't think you did at least), it was obvious that job was taking a toll on you. I for one am glad you're free and making more cutie patootie stuff for your shop!

  15. I don't see why your shop couldn't grow to a full-time operation, your pieces are phenomenal and made with love and creativity! Good for you Laura, that is such a brave decision and so nice that your hubby is so supportive! Love your classic dress.

  16. I hate to say it but the south has a lot of teaching jobs from k-12 to college level. Its a bad thing and a good thing for those who need a job but we have a lot of turn over from Teach for America.

  29. Congrats missy - it sucks being stuck in a job that you don't enjoy. One of the reasons I love going to work is the social aspect and that overall I am happy with my job.

Plus being too lazy to go through interviews etc haha.

So now to celebrate! Enjoy the freedom and I hope you find something that suits you :)

  32. Good for you! I did the same thing as you-I HATED my job and finally just up and quit about a year and a half ago and am so much happier. It's not fun complaining all the time which is what I was doing. I hope your shop takes off and does well!

  33. That's incredibly brave of you! Sometimes, I want to do that...but I'm not sure living in an expensive city would allow me that risk. I think it's amazing you have a supportive husband who will stand by you and let you do what makes you happy!! So happy for you! Congrats!

  37. Well done! I've been in that kind of job before and it's just not worth it. I quit too and was poor but happy. When you are happier you are more able to see awesome opportunities that are all around you! Best of luck!

  38. Good for you, Laura! A person's happiness shouldn't be held hostage by a thankless, stress-inducing job. I don't blame you for quitting. I've been in the same position before. If a job doesn't give you a sense of fulfillment, accomplishment, or the feeling that you're being appreciated, it's time to move on. I wish you all the best, lady! :)

Fabulous outfit, by the way. You look very elegant.
