Put a Cape on it

It's hard to believe I took these pictures just a couple days ago because as I type, it's Snowmagedonning outside. It's been snowing non-stop since I went to bed late last night, and it's supposed to keep on snowing for a few more hours. Definitely weather not conducive to going out and about. Especially with the wind howling like a maniac! To my fellow Midwesterners, stay inside and be safe!
When I took these photos, the weather was extremely cooperative and pleasant enough to take a short walk around our neighborhood park. And yes, that is a frozen lake, but trust me-- it was really gorgeous and warm even!

Here is the cape I have been fondly talking about since I got it a few weeks back. I've been wanting a cold-weather cape for years now, but just never found one that suited my tastes that I could try on before purchasing (am I the only one who is totally wary of buying clothes online?) I've always thought that any outfit looks a bit more chic when you put a cape over it. I mean, do I even need a top when I'm reluctant to take off my cape? Probably.

Anywho, this past year, I lucked out and found this darling at the Banana Republic outlet! Factoid: I used to spend my paychecks in high school at Banana Republic (and Nordstrom) before I went through a slight Hot Topic phase. True story.

  1. I love it! I used to wear capes and ponchos all the time in college for doing things like running to the front desk of my dorms or crossing campus to go grab food. It was such an easy solution. I need to revisit them. That one is super cute!

  2. Hope you're cozy inside and enjoying that soup you were making! I am loving loving this cape. I really want one, but jackets are something I need to be able to try on because of sizing issues and we just are not the mecca of plus size stores around here.

  5. The cape looks adorable on you! I have yet to own one although I am big on winter outers.
And yes, there was a time I couldn't dress myself if not for the BR sale racks. haha

  6. Love it! I wish I could wear capes like this more often, but they're kind of impractical up here. Gets too cold too fast!

  8. CAPE! Everyone keeps wearing capes and I WANT ONE. I went through a Hot Topic phase too, but it wasn't preceded by a Banana Republic one.

  9. You look lovely doll. I like the cape. Here it's just rain constantly - annoying really. I'm ready for spring already. I'd love a cape really, but i've not looked into them enough to find one I love. Have a gorgeous week doll x

  11. I love a good cape. It rarely gets cold enough in New Orleans though so I hesitate about buying one. Love the red shoes.

  14. I'm with you on trying stuff on! I have to be able to feel the material (and smell, I know-- weird) it before I buy, especially with larger ticket items. And I am still in my jammies as I type this response. It's stopped snowing, but the roads are still awful!

  15. And you do the same, Rachel! <3

  34. What a perfect cape! I always feel such satisfaction when I find something at the Banana Republic or JCrew outlets. I worked at The Limited in high school...so I think most of my paychecks for clothes got spent there...haha.

Stay warm Laura! This snowmageddon is beast!

  38. Oooohhh, now I really want a cape! I love yours especially and would definitely not buy one without trying it on first. It all depends on the way it hangs and you can never tell online!

I hope you were able to stay warm during the polar vortex! It was really cold in Atlanta, but nothing like what you midwesterners experienced.
